The Human Spirit
Poetry by Craig Carlson
The human spirit, who can keep it down? Fire can not burn it, water can not drown it, chains can not restrain it, sword or knife can not slice it, gold could never buy it. When true it has no price. Force can not sway it and bribes can not corrupt it. Rising up through darkness, with freedom the spirit erupts! Deception does not deceive it, when true will truly fly. The faithful do believe it. The spirit does not lie. The faithful all receive it. The spirit does not die. Evil tries to kill it. Oppression fights to hold sway. Yet when true the spirit conquers and always wins the day.
